Description

The goal of this transfer project is to gain a deeper understanding of tantalum enrichment in model and real-world slag systems and to generalize the methods developed in the previously funded DFG project to other slag systems, using slag-tailings at Taniobis Smelting GmbH as an example. Scale-up effects and the targeted recycling of tantalum into the material cycle will be investigated. As part of this effort, the IME is developing thermodynamic computational models focused on the formation of Ta-rich phases. At the same time, these computational models are being validated on a laboratory scale and iteratively refined. Based on these results, experiments will be conducted on a technical scale and, ultimately, on a pilot scale at Taniobis Smelting GmbH to investigate scale-up effects.
