We mourn the loss of our former institute director

Professor Dr.-Ing. Joachim Krüger, em.
(June 16, 1933 – October 28, 2025)

Professor Krüger led the IME from 1977 to 1999 and shaped the institute with his personality over many years. During this time, he impressed not only with his enormous expertise, particularly in the field of zinc research, but also with the high standards he set for himself and others.

Professor Krüger was always a mentor and supporter to his scientific team and to students. His commitment to university politics and his passion for committee work contributed significantly to the development of our institution. He introduced recycling to the IME at an early stage.

We will all miss his ability to impart knowledge and inspire others. We will honor his memory and never forget his valuable contributions to science and the academic community.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
